As part of the run up to the new battleship class to be build after the “Battleship Holiday” Design H evaluated an option with the new 14″/50 gun then under design and protection was designed against them as well. The design complied with the 35.000 ton limit and also employed an interesting main battery layout to reduce top weight and separate turrets as much as possible while retaining an all forward layout. Speed was reduced to 23 knots only in order to maintain protection.
